Watch Chief Justice Corona's Impeachment Trial Verdict Video Replay. Senators are set to vote today, May 29-Tuesday on whether to sack the nation's top judge after a historic trial over alleged corruption which saw him accused of hiding millions of dollars in assets.

Senator-judges to vote via alphabetical order, Enrile to vote last. 16 votes needed to convict; 8 to acquit. Senator-judges will vote on Articles 2, 3 and 7. They have 2 minutes to explain their votes.

  • Angara: In order to suppress any questionable accumulation of wealth, we maintain a standard of honesty.

  • Santiago: Burden of proof is on the Prosec. I have adopted the standard of overwhelming preponderance of evidence.
  • Santiago: Does SALN omission belong to the same class as bribery, treason? SALN inaccuracies not in same class as other impeachable offenses.
  • Santiago: There is no conflict between FCDA and SALN. The perceived conflict is laughable. 
  • Santiago: Why do we call this proceeding quasi-judicial if puro political lang ang interpretation ng batas?

  • Drilon: Corona concealed his luxurious condominiums 5 years after they were paid.

  • Senator-judge Chiz Escudero is now explaining his vote. 
  • Escudero: Do not judge others, for the measure that you used to judge will be used against you.

  • Marcos: The CJ has sufficiently addressed the claims against him.
  • Marcos: Given the ambiguous interpretation of FCDA vs. SALN law, the Chief Justice is presumed to have acted in good faith.
  • Marcos: Misdeclarations in the SALN are not an impeachable offense. 
  • Sen. Bongbong Marcos votes to acquit Corona on Art. 2 of the impeachment complaint. So far: 11 Guilty, 3 Not Guilty.

  • Osmeña: Did CJ Corona violate the constitution? Did he do it unknowingly?

  • Recto: I base decision on facts, not opinions aired outside of court; on testimonies, not theories; on arguments, not analysis.
  •  Recto: In an impeachment complaint, length is not strength. The way evidence was produced left a bad taste in the mouth.
  • Recto: My duty is to choose what is right and not what is popular.
  • Recto: There is no such thing as SALN that is statistically perfect.

  • Enrile: The culmination of this national drama is at hand. And the time has come for me to render judgment before whom I took my oath.
  • Enrile: As a lawyer I confess I was personally frustrated by hasty crafting of charges; seems case built up after charges filed.
  • Sen. Enrile admonishes leaked information presented as evidence to the impeachment court.
  • Enrile: This court means serious business and would not succumb to or allow such underhanded tactics to deter this court from our task.
  • Enrile: Even before Omb. Morales was called to this court, her letter to the CJ was already leaked to the media 
  • Enrile: I've always believed that out of these 3 articles, the case for prosecution and defense will rise and fall on Article 2.
  • Enrile reiterates: CJ does not stand accuse of having amassed any illegal wealth before this court.
  • Enrile: Code of conduct recognizes public right to info on SALN except for purposes contrary to moral purpose or commercial use
  • Enrile: I am convinced that the Defense has presented sufficient evidence to refute the charge of non-disclosure of some properties.
  • Enrile: Constitutional principles of public accountability override absolute confidentiality of dollar deposits.
