Words of Wisdom

It's a big leap from high school to the real world...scary and exciting all at once.
But don't let yourself be overwhelmned ...
You're doing just fine and the feelings that you're having about
Being a little lost, finding your place in the world, are perfectly normal.
I'd be a little worried if you didn't have some doubts at this stage.
But everything will work out for you ... I promise.
You have a dream, many dreams, and that's rare and something to be treasured.
Most people don't have that.
Too often, we play it safe and people find
Themselves trapped in "lives of quiet desperation."
They follow the crowd, go to college, get a job,
Gt married, have kids, pay the bills and look forward
To being financially secure in retirement.
But there's always something tugging at them ---
A secret, unfullfilled desire---
A longing to have gone for it, reached for the stars
And tried to achieve their dream. Go for it. Give it your all.
You have that right and I would say, a duty,
To try and make your dreams come true.
That's who you are. Don't let anybody stop you.
It's your time, now that you're young and have a vision.
From being an English major in college,
I mentioned the remark by philospher Henry David Thoreau.
He wrote the back-to-nature book about Walden Pond.
Here it is: "If a man loses pace with his companions, perhaps it
Is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the
Music which he hears, however measured, or far away."
--- Henry David Thoreau.
So, what that means is that you should do things in your own way,
March to your own tune and be true to yourself.
Right now, you're hearing a "different" drummer than your friends
...And that's okay.

-A very wise man
